The world is a festival of odors for dogs, aromas pregnant with information, and so, on walks, my dog, Sky, who is a charter member of Nosebook, checks out the status of neighborhood dogs and leaves her comments, likes and dislikes. It’s a smelly job, but someone’s got to do it.

Love the picture of Sky! My dog-less friend asked me why my dog liked to lick her toes? What could I say but to explain that for dogs, “the smellier the better”? Ridiculously honest, I know! Luckily she took it as informational not insulting. She’s also asked why my dog paws the floor and circles around before laying down–can’t remember how I answered that one, probably “wolf instinct” or some such improvisation!
Tell you friend your dog is just trying to find a cool spot in which to lie down. Wish Sky did that instead of unmaking my bed and balling up the blanket. Never know when you might need a nice nest!
